What defines a green building? A building which performs effectively after
its construction, utilizes most of the natural energy resources for meeting up
its energy requirements and which is constructed with effective utilization of
materials and resources can be considered as a green building. When it comes to building performance after
construction, green buildings have effective mechanism for controlling
temperature and lighting uses of the building as effective HVAC and electrical
systems are designed for them during preconstruction. Energy conservation
remains the major focus of these buildings which are developed with the support
of cutting edge technology.
The deteriorating environmental conditions are the
major reasons behind the acceptance of green building concept. Construction
industry has done a huge damage to environment and is continuously doing so as
large number of construction activities are executed every day by AEC
professionals. Construction activities which are taking place all over the
world are leading to rapid deforestation which is ultimately resulting into
ecological misbalance. Today the entire world is facing problems such as
extreme winters, highly scorching summers and unpredicted floods etc. and all
this clearly indicates that something is going wrong, when it comes to
maintaining ecological balance.
Green construction is huge step towards fixing
environmental problems. When a green building is constructed design and
construction professionals focus on saving energy and water use and they also
concentrate on minimizing wastage of materials. But how is this done by them. Execution
of energy modeling services in the early design phase is tremendously important
for developing green buildings. By executing energy modeling services, key
building professionals can develop high performing architectural, structural
and MEP design. Building design software Revit is highly useful for carrying
out energy modeling services since building professionals can quickly convert
design and construction data that is stored within BIM models into energy
models. His data can be analyzed effectively by BIM modelers for identifying
building performance. One the basis of that, changes can be made to design for
improving building’s performance.
So it’s clear that highly effective green buildings
can be constructed considering the fact that energy modeling services are executed
during design phase.
