A comprehensive note on different ‘Actions’ that can be used by Revit users during Coordination Review

When MEP BIM Coordination Services review is performed by Revit users they have to be very specific about implementing different actions for the warnings that are displayed when alterations are made to the monitored elements of BIM models.  In other words Revit users have to be very cautious while handling every change that is applied to monitored elements. Actions taken by Revit users can make a huge difference when it comes to implementing changes in the design hence warning related to every change should be handled attentively.

For selecting an action Revit users have to click on the Action column and then select the most suitable action from the drop down menu for dealing with the change. Different actions are taken by Revit users for dealing with different warnings because of the nature of the change.

Only current project is affected if changes are made to the elements after taking an action for a warning. That means nothing changes in a linked model if an action is taken by Revit users for dealing with a change.

If Revit users select an action in the Action column described as ‘Postpone/Do nothing’ it means nothing should be done at the moment to the change made in a monitored element. By selecting is action, it means that the change will be addressed later on.

If in case Revit users select an action described as ‘Reject’ in the Action column, it stipulates that the change made by Revit users in the monitored element is absolutely wrong and hence it should not be adopted or  embraced in the design. It may also indicate that instead of making a change in the monitored element of a host model changes should be made in the monitored element of the linked model.

On the other hand Revit users should select ‘Accept the difference’ action in Action column if the change made to the monitored element absolutely correct. That means if the change made to a monitored element is productive for the design then Revit users should accept it by taking ‘Accept the difference’ action during coordination review.

In this way right actions can be taken by Revit users for effectively handling the change.

A brief account on BIM’s expansion over the years

Building Information Modeling has a dramatic history when it comes to its expansion in the landscapes of AEC industry over the years. BIM which is also known as Virtual Design and Construction has a dominant presence in AEC industry because of the fact that is has the potential to realize project outcomes and can control them significantly as per requirement. In short design and construction professionals can attain superior control over project outcomes by analyzing multidiscipline models. Well, Building Information Modeling evolved as a concept some four decades ago but it was not practiced by AEC professionals in the industry at that time. For approximately ten years since it first appeared in the journal, the term ‘BIM’ used to be seen only in research papers. BIM as a technology and a process started to be implemented in construction projects some thirty years ago. So once AEC professionals started using BIM in construction they never looked back to their sluggish performanc...

Determine the size of your family according to your project requirement in Revit!

Revit is considered the best choice by architects, engineers, BIM modelers and technicians working in AEC industry for creating families. Families are basically used by BIM modelers while executing Revit modeling services. That makes Revit and Revit modeling services an integral part of construction project execution. Family size matters a lot when it comes to designing a building. In Revit technicians have the luxury to control family size as per the requirement of their project. If in case a smaller size door is required for one of the rooms in the building it can be easily created by using the Family Editor tool of Revit. Revit Family Editor has vital features for developing custom families. The Family size can be controlled by BIM modelers by assigning required dimensions for the family.   In other words the geometry of the family can be easily controlled by assigning parameters in Revit. Take an example of door family; it’s up to Revit modelers what dimensions they want ...

Structural drawings: What is the role of Revit structure and Tekla Structure in their development?

Among all kinds of construction drawings it is really difficult to develop structural drawings as they are of highly complex nature. For developing strong and durable structural framework, the first step is to develop high quality structural drawings which can effectively describe structural design.  For the comprehensive understanding of structural design numerous kinds of technical drawings which may include detailed sketches, plans and working drawings etc have to be developed by drafters and detailers on the instructions of structural engineers.   In this blog I would like to focus on the development of Steel fabrication drawings and erection drawings which are created by steel detailers when they execute Structural Steel Detailing Services with the support of Revit structure or Tekla Structure.    Both Revit structure and Tekla structure are most widely used software packages which are utilized by steel detailers for the development of d...
